We are seeking to appoint a Learning Support & Cover Assistant (Preparatory Divisions) to provide support to pupils from Reception to Year 6 at New Hall School.

We are seeking to appoint a Learning Support & Cover Assistant (Preparatory Divisions) to provide support to pupils from Reception to Year 6 at New Hall School. The Preparatory Divisions offer a vibrant and academically ambitious environment where exceptional teaching, character formation and service to others are central to School life.

This full-time, term-time only role provides high quality support for pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The role includes one-to-one support, small group intervention, and in class assistance to help pupils engage fully in learning and achieve their potential. The Learning Support & Cover Assistant will also supervise classes when required and contribute positively to the wider life of the Preparatory Divisions.

Key responsibilities:

  • to support and contribute to the Catholic ethos of the School in accordance with the Mission and Ethos statement
  • to promote the values and strategic aims of the School
  • to maintain an understanding of strategies to support pupils with SEND
  • to provide one to one and small group learning support to pupils across the Preparatory Divisions
  • to deliver targeted interventions in Literacy, Maths, Language and fine motor skills under the guidance of the SENDCO and heads of department
  • to support pupils with SEND in class ensuring they can access the curriculum
  • to implement strategies and support plans agreed with teachers and the SENDCO
  • to encourage high expectations for pupil achievement, behaviour and effort
  • to foster positive relationships that support pupils’ confidence, motivation and wellbeing
  • to promote social inclusion and positive peer relationships
  • to support pupils in developing independence organisation and learning skills
  • to monitor and record pupil progress and feedback to relevant staff
  • to participate in training and professional development relevant to the role
  • to supervise classes when required, ensuring pupils complete the work set by the teacher
  • to explain tasks and maintain a positive and purposeful learning environment
  • to support the co-curricular programme before School, during lunch and after School as required
  • to support School trips visits and residential activities where appropriate
  • to help create a safe positive and inclusive learning environment for pupils
  • to promote and safeguard the welfare of pupils in line with safeguarding and child protection policies
  • to report any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • to comply with health and safety, medical and first aid policies and procedures
  • to undertake supervision duties before School, during break, lunch and after School as required
  • to uphold high standards of pupil behaviour and conduct across the School
