Exams Officer - Break Through School

Part-Time Exams Officer

At Break Through School, we’re not just an alternative provision – we’re a lifeline for young people with SEMH and SEND needs who deserve a fresh start and a brighter future.

We are looking for a part-time Exams Officer to lead on the administration and coordination of examinations and assessments across Break Through School.

The role will be approximately 20 hours per week, predominantly during school term time. There will be some flexibility around how these hours are worked outside of examination periods.

During the main examination season, particularly in May and June, the successful candidate will be required to work additional days, including Monday to Friday where necessary, to oversee the smooth running of examinations. This may also involve some earlier starts and later finishes.

Outside of external examination and assessment periods, working arrangements can be agreed flexibly in discussion with the Senior Leadership Team.

About the role

We are seeking an organised, enthusiastic and committed individual to take responsibility for the effective administration of examinations and assessments across the school.

This role would be well suited to someone with experience of working within a school or administrative environment who is looking to take ownership of an important area of school provision.

Break Through School has a cohort of approximately 45 learners, each requiring a highly personalised approach to their curriculum and assessment.

You will work closely with the SENDCo, Senior Leadership Team and teaching staff to ensure that examination entries, access arrangements and assessment processes are effectively coordinated and that our learners are given the best possible opportunity to succeed.

We are looking for someone who can:
  • Provide effective administrative support for all examination and assessment requirements.

  • Coordinate the organisation and administration of internal and external examinations.

  • Work with the Senior Leadership Team to provide accurate examination and assessment information and data.

  • Work closely with the SENDCo to support appropriate access arrangements and individual learner needs.

  • Communicate effectively and sensitively with learners, parents and carers, teachers and senior leaders.

  • Remain calm, organised and adaptable when responding to challenging or unexpected situations.

  • Work independently while also contributing positively as part of the wider school team.

  • Be open to new ideas, committed to continuous improvement and bring a positive approach to the role.

We can offer you:
  • A welcoming and supportive learning and working environment.

  • Enthusiastic staff and pupils who are thoroughly rewarding to work with.

  • Continued CPD opportunities throughout the year.

  • Access to external training and professional development opportunities tailored to individual needs and interests.

  • The opportunity to play an important part in the school’s continued journey of improvement.

  • The opportunity to work alongside a dedicated and hardworking staff team, supportive parents and active governance.

  • A private healthcare package.

  • Career progression opportunities within Break Through School and across the wider Melrose Education group.
