Role Description: Teacher of Prep (Ages 4–11)

Auckland College is seeking a dedicated and inspirational Prep Teacher to join our dynamic Lower School team. The role involves delivering a high-quality, well-rounded education to pupils aged 4–11, while supporting their academic progress and personal development in a nurturing and values-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons across a range of subjects, in line with the school’s curriculum and ethos

• Foster an inclusive, stimulating classroom environment that promotes active learning and intellectual curiosity

• Assess, record, and report on pupil progress regularly, using varied assessment methods to inform teaching

• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of all pupils, including those with SEND and EAL

• Integrate innovative teaching strategies, resources, and technology to enhance learning

Pastoral Care

• Create a safe, nurturing classroom atmosphere that supports pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development

• Build strong, positive relationships with pupils to encourage confidence and well-being

• Maintain clear and effective communication with parents and carers about pupil progress, behaviour, and welfare

• Work collaboratively with staff to address pastoral concerns, including behaviour and mental health

Collaboration and Professional Development

• Work closely with Prep colleagues to ensure consistency and share best practices

• Take part in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide initiatives

• Stay informed about educational developments, research, and best practices

• Engage in professional appraisal and respond constructively to feedback

Curriculum and Subject Knowledge

• Maintain strong subject knowledge and deliver lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum

• Contribute to curriculum development and refinement across the Prep phase

• Create and share high-quality teaching resources that support effective and engaging lessons

Extracurricular Involvement

• Contribute to school life beyond the classroom through extracurricular activities, events, and trips

• Encourage pupil involvement in co-curricular programmes that support their holistic development

Administration and Compliance

• Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment, and behaviour

• Ensure full compliance with school policies and safeguarding procedures

• Attend parent-teacher meetings and represent the school at relevant events

Key Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant subject area

• PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or currently working towards it

Experience

• Experience teaching pupils aged 4–11 in a primary or prep school setting

• Ability to effectively engage, support, and manage young learners

• Proficiency in lesson planning, assessment, and progress reporting

Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication

• Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills

• Well-organised with attention to detail
