Set in 40 acres of beautiful countryside in Guernsey, Blanchelande College are seeking a dedicated and inspirational Teacher of Computer Science to lead our students from Years 7–13 from September 2026 (negotiable).

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Computer Science across Years 7–13 (KS3–KS5), delivering consistently high-quality lessons that develop computational thinking, problem-solving and digital literacy.
  • Plan and prepare schemes of work and lessons in line with departmental and College expectations, using a range of teaching strategies and resources.
  • Assess, mark and provide timely, constructive feedback; track progress and implement effective interventions to raise achievement.
  • Prepare pupils for internal and external examinations (including GCSE and A Level), contributing to appropriate moderation and exam arrangements as required.
  • Promote positive behaviour, maintain high expectations, and ensure pupils’ safety and wellbeing in lessons and during College activities.
  • Contribute actively to departmental development, including curriculum planning, resource selection and sharing best practice.
  • Support the wider life of the College, including contributing to the extra-curricular programme through a weekly club or activity.
  • Carry out pastoral responsibilities as required (e.g., form tutor role), working in partnership with colleagues and parents to support pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in the College’s performance management and INSET programme.
  • For the right candidate, there may be the opportunity to take on Subject Lead responsibilities for Computer Science.

Essential Criteria

  • A degree in Computer Science or a closely related subject (e.g., Maths, Software Engineering, Web Design, Games Programming/Design, Networks Engineering, Cyber Security, Design & Technology, Engineering, AI/Data Science) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable ability to teach Computer Science effectively, including experience of teaching at GCSE and using intervention strategies to raise attainment.
  • Excellent subject knowledge, including strong familiarity with procedural programming in Python.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of appropriate teaching resources and relevant examination specifications.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate pupils.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills; able to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • High-level IT competency to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently (within a small department) and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Positive, reliable and professional approach; approachable, enthusiastic and self-motivated.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, including the ability to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure (or equivalent checks as applicable).
