The Old School Henstead is a thriving independent co-educational nursery and preparatory school for children aged 2–11, set within a beautiful 3-acre rural campus near Beccles and Lowestoft. The Role
We are seeking an exceptional Headteacher (Teaching Head) to lead our school with energy and ambition into its next phase of development. This is a exciting opportunity to shape the future of our resilient independent school, combining strategic leadership and organisational development with hands-on teaching.
- Reporting to the Board of Governors, the successful candidate will:
- Provide clear strategic leadership, direction and vision for the school
- Lead and inspire a small, dedicated team of staff
- Deliver high-quality teaching as part of a teaching head role
- Ensure academic standards and pupil outcomes are recorded, maintained and enhanced
- Champion the school’s inclusive, family-oriented ethos
- Maintain strong relationships with parents, governors, and the wider community
- Support pupil recruitment and ambitiously lead the school’s growth and sustainability
- Improve structure, systems and organisation, employing a consistent approach across the school
- Maintain a financial overview, set and manage budgets and identify and pursue alternative income streams
- Understand site management, upholding the appearance and safe operation of the school site.
- Comply with ISI and statutory legislation, including employment and charity law
- Standard safeguarding line needed here
About You
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Has clear ambition and demonstrates genuine focus and commitment to the role
- Has proven leadership experience (Head, Deputy, or senior leader level)
- Is an excellent classroom practitioner, preferably with primary/EYFS experience
- Fully appreciates the value of - small-school education and personalised learning
- Understands the importance of monitoring pupil performance and attainment
- Demonstrates integrity, strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Is commercially adept and understands the independent school sector
- Embraces outdoor learning, creativity, and a holistic approach to education
